Why MLM Opportunities Disappoint Most People
OK, so you have been invited by a friend to a meeting at their house. “Lots” of people are coming they tell you. And they won’t really tell you more than that… but it will be worth your time to go… anyway, it’s been so long and it will be fun!
Honestly, who could not use extra money?
So like most you go, hear a 45 minute sales pitch by some “expert” who is of course making a fortune in this company, and you are getting in on the ground floor, and it will be fun! Oh, and you don’t have to sell anything, and no inventory is needed, the company takes care of everything! On the surface it makes so much sense that you find yourself getting into it. How can you NOT do this? Everyone will think you are old-fashioned or worse, stupid!
Relax. This happens every night across America and in most other countries now as well. Many times I have fallen… chasing easy money, thinking this time it will be different. First it was NuSkin, which for a guy, with a young family, was not easy but seemed like a good idea. Trunk full of inventory, I did not last long. My then wife was supportive, but not a partner in the biz… and I already had a full time day job!
From there, we jumped at OxyFresh. Made sense for us as we had built a small but reliable dental marketing business and the products fit like a glove, so we were doing fine until the ADA made dental marketing illegal, and we were out of business again.
So far, I had made only as much as I had spent. Guess I could have gone golfing and lost money, but at least I was trying.
Next… with much rebuke from my then wife, I tried a true start-up that for all intents and purposes was doomed, but such a natural fit for my “Day” job that I could not refuse. Eagleshield was fresh in California, and I was already in the Solar Business, so I ran a few ads in the hottest markets in the Valley, brought on maybe six distributors below me and kept them motivated. Next thing I know, one of my down lines is on fire, like everyone dreams of. He had the “gift” and soon I had over 1,700 active distributors in my down line. My checks were great… but they soon tapered off as my progeny passed me and left me in a dust cloud of money! Not enough to retire, let alone go on vacation (Family of 5 is expensive!), but back then a commission check for $1,600 in a week was a small fortune.
Years went by… and then a friend shared with me a company called SendOutCards. Honestly, it is one of the best companies for me, in that I was already spending more money on cards, etc for my real estate business so this was actually a perfect match. I saved money, made enough on the side to support the habit, and did nothing really to promote the business. Still send cards this way. Hey… it works. Not sure how much money you can make… but I did not join SendOutCards to get rich.
Feeling rather good about his choice I had made, I fell into the Efusion Launch, against all of my experience and knowledge. Usually, a single product category MLM company has a hard time holding onto distributors, and honestly, the product was not what it was cracked up to be, more expensive than the category killers at Costco, and shipping was killing the program. Lost money on this one.
My final foray into the MLM business was with the pre-launch of the Trump Network. I was hounded for months by my sponsor, promised the moon by his up line, and when I joined, I did it big. $3,000 in cash and I was roaring to go. Spent another $4,000- $6,000 by the time I got tired of asking “When is Donald Trump going on Oprah and Larry King Live to announce this?” He still has not, and I am done.
What’s the point of this, you ask? I will tell you… every MLM opportunity requires work. Lots of it. Every day. And most nights. Do not quit your day job… most times you spend more than you make for at least the first 6 months. And selling your friends, neighbors, Facebook friends and co-workers makes you a target to be avoided in most social circles. And still, you have to work at your “business”. Daily.
If you do not… your organization will collapse through natural attrition if nothing else. And the worst part is that once you get hooked on the green, you fear losing it!
I have searched the world over for the ideal part-time job opportunity that can reliably grow into full time income, and that can be started for next to no up-front cash, and that you can trade your perceived no-value spare time for some kind of future income stream and THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY THAT TRULY FITS THIS CRITERIA IS A WEB-BASED BUSINESS!
That being said, don’t get me wrong… we will feature MLM opportunities on this site that fit our criteria, so for those of you already dipped in the MLM grape juice, you will find our input beyond value. And for the uninitiated, take heart in our advice. You can and will make money in your “Spare” time, but you have to want the end result. Stick with it, learn from anyone you can, and become a sponge of the successful.
